Help Us Rebuild the Abacos and Grand Bahama

South Abaco Status

As you are aware, hurricane Dorian has devastated much of the northern Bahamas which includes Abaco.

While the northern part of Abaco has received relief support from the military, government and the Red Cross, southern Abaco has been neglected.

Together, South Abaco Land Development Company (SALDCO) and Begin Again Ministries will work to provide relief efforts for those that have been overlooked in southern Abaco.

Goods will be purchased out of south Florida and flown to Sandy Point airport at Kakona, where they will then be distributed among the local community and those in need.

The Damage

  • 13,000 homes destroyed
  • Businesses in Marsh Harbor destroyed
  • No electric power, transmission lines or distribution system
  • No potable water
  • No working sanitary facilities
  • Very little shelter except for shells of buildings that remain standing
  • Very little gas or diesel as most got contaminated in the storm

The only things the people of Abaco and Grand Bahama have is what is being donated

What you can do

We are asking for tax deductible contributions to Begin Again Ministries, a registered 501c3.

All funds collected will be dedicated to the relief effort in South Abaco Bahamas.

This includes generators, water makers, bladder storage tanks and tankers for water deliveries and storage, clothes, school materials, computers medical supplies and emergency housing which is so desperately needed by the people of the Abacos and Grand Bahama. All items that were destroyed by this catastrophic event.

About Begin Again Ministries

Begin Again Ministries (BAM), a registered 501c3 charity, in cooperation with SALDCO, and the Harrell Family Trust has committed their time and funds to initiate this effort.

To date, BAM has purchased approximately $30,000 worth of food, water, medical supplies, personal hygiene products and twelve (12) portable generators.

Additionally BAM has purchased a $60,000 – 4,000 gallon per day (gpd) seawater reverse osmosis unit with a 500 lb/day ice maker and a 30 kW generator mounted on a trailer for portability and has placed a second unit on order.

Once water is reestablished in South Abaco, we are committed to working with Water and Sewer to deploy these units to those areas in need in the northern Bahamas.

BAM’s commitment does not end there. We are committed to purchasing and providing one hundred portable generators and at least ten additional seawater RO units. This addresses the need for water and temporary power.

It, however, does not address the ongoing need for food, medical supplies, and everyday items that we have access to readily.
